WEB DESIGNING 101
This website is unclear on what is defined, and is far too busy. It has excessive busy-ness as everything draws my attention.
The competing noise is slim, but there is a no contrast from the background to the menu above, where as the body is clearly defined.
This website confused me because the random, moving, floating meat in the background is not even clickable, not to mention a receptive song about their meat plays on repeat!
The links are clearly visible and if you hover over them, they change to a yellow as shown on one of the icons.
WoW! This site is like looking at an add in the paper for things to sell, but far less organized. Some things are boxed others are randomly there, like the dancing Santa at the left/ bottom of the screen. It shows poorly the rule of clearly defining a space!
On this site, I know exactly what belongs with what, as it is grouped and color coded into different sections and not distracting.
This user shows us how conventions are handy for less words, except a little confusing with the extra lines and colors. It shows us that most people can figure out that the icon in blue on the left is a search link and the other is mail, maps, and so on.
This shows how visual hierarchies is achieved through visually grouping your items according to the relations ship within the group. Each icon is similar, but contains different images, with different headers underneath, as well as a common pattern of a link in orange that matches near the bottom.
